Any promotional product distributor will tell you that the best real estate from a marketing perspective is someone’s desk. That’‘s why you will see a boatload of desk accessories and pens being used for giveaways but what about mugs? I can tell you exactly which people in my office drink coffee, and which ones drink tea. I can also tell you exactly what everyone’s mug looks like. Our CEO carries around a printed mug with a ‘Life is Good’ logo on it. One of our inside sales reps carries around a printed mug with an Irish blessing. These printed mugs have been with these folks for years. Forget about desk real estate, these custom mugs go everywhere in here. Certainly most marketers see the value in printed mugs. If they hit the jackpot and give out a custom mug that people love, they have just won a coveted spot in someone’s work life. It can get much better than that. So, how do you achieve printed mug greatness? First, I would argue that comfort is crucial. Choose a custom mug that has an interesting shape, but more importantly, a comfortable shape. Trendy is great, but comfort is lasting. Twelve ounce ceramic mugs may be considered pedestrian to the hip folks at the coffee shops, but they are the standard for everyone in an office. 
Nobody really wants to mess with lids and funky tops for their everyday printed mug, they just want something simple to wash, durable, and with a message or logo on it that they can look at every day. The second big important choice about your printed mug is the logo. If you want a billboard, please rent one. If you use your giveaway items as a vehicle to blast your message into someone’s ear, they will be turned off. But, when you choose a subtle and effective logo or message, people will allow it (some may even like it) to hang out on their desk all day. There is a very fine line between a custom mug that people will be excited to receive, and a custom mug that they receive and immediately try to figure out whom to ‘re-gift’ their printed mug to.
