Custom T Shirts
If you are researching custom T shirts, congratulations… you have found the suppliers’ supplier. Ampro is one of the largest and oldest silk-screen printing operations on the East Coast. For the past 35 years, we have been printing custom T shirts for all the major brands. Enough about us, we know you’re here for the T shirts.
T Shirt Varieties
Ringspun, 30 singles, Organic, Recycled, Interlock, Carded, Burnout, Ribbed, Combed, Direct-dyed, Pigment-dyed, Tie-dyed, Moisture-management, Slim-cut, Athletic-cut, Junior-cut, 6.1 oz, 5.6 oz, 4.3 oz, 3.6 oz- the options are endless. What are the differences between all of those? Almost all of those types of custom T shirts are different fabric types. Ringspun, 30 singles, Interlock, Carded and Ribbed are all different thread and knitting combinations. Most basic T shirts are made with Carded 18/1 open end cotton fabric. Ringspun cotton T shirts are a little bit nicer because they are softer to the touch. 30 Singles T shirts are also a softer variety of custom T shirt, the “30 singles” refers to the yarn, which is thinner and less fuzzy.
Organic T shirts are made from cotton that has been grown in environmentally sustainable ways- but be careful, the regulations only require 50% Organic cotton content to be labeled as “organic.” Ultra Club makes an Organic custom T shirt that is made from 100% Organic cotton. Recycled T shirts can be made one of two ways, either from melted down plastic soda bottles (the plastic is rendered into yarn) or by recycling fabric waste from the apparel industry. Interlock is a fuzzy, soft fabric, and because it is soft, it does not make the greatest surface for screenprinting. Burnout T shirts are a fairly new variety where the fabric has been scorched in a pattern creating a sheer element.
Look & Feel
Custom T shirts also come in many different dye options. Most shirts are direct-dyed. Some shirts are Pigment-Dyed which gives a softer, washed and worn look. There are also Tie-Dyed T-shirts which create the opportunity for your custom T-shirt(s) to stand out. Moisture management fabrics are generally synthetic fiber blends or proprietary cotton weaves. Once you have chosen the appropriate fabric for your custom T-shirt(s) you should consider a few of the fits; Slim cut, athletic cut, and junior cut. Most custom T shirt(s) are athletic cut, but many new fashion fits are much slimmer. Also, be aware that junior cut T shirts are not made for women. Look for Missy cut T shirts if you are looking for a feminine shirt for adult women.
The last consideration for your custom T shirt(s) is the weight of the fabric. Preference is strongly determined by your market. If you are outfitting Big & Tall men, they prefer 6.1 oz fabrics and heavier. Junior’s aged girls like fabrics from 3 oz through 4.5. Athletes should really stick with 5.5 - 6.1 oz fabrics because they are the most durable. As long as you consider the end-user while choosing the appropriate Custom T shirt for your program, you will be in good shape. Feel free to ask any Ampro sales representative if you are looking for some specific advice. Just tell us why you are in the market for custom T shirts and we’ll give you some great options to choose from.
