Wrestling Uniforms
As you may have read on the home page of our website, we are very proud of the engineering behind our special formulation of “stretchy” ink. Singlets that can withstand a beating and have a good balance of comfort and compression are important. Now that Adidas and Brute have teamed up to make wrestling uniforms, Brute’s strong background in manufacturing custom uniforms is matched with Adidas’ proprietary moisture-management fabrics. Basic Options
Wrestling uniforms have a few key components to choose from. Fabric is the first decision you may want to make, there are Lycra and Nylon singlets available, and some have rib knitting. You can request reversible wrestling uniforms if your team is using a traditional singlet. 
There are also two-piece uniform sets, which have short-sleeve fitted tops and fitted shorts. Jam-length singlets have proven to be popular lately, but there are also low-cut options. Many wrestlers choose a gripper-leg singlet so they aren’t constantly tugging at their wrestling uniform. Coaches can choose one of two ways to decorate their uniforms. If there is enough time to order custom sublimation uniforms (sublimation is the technique where the decoration is dyed into the fabric) they are a great all-over look for your wrestling uniforms. Be sure to ask for sizing samples so you can let your team try on several of the different sizes available before you commit to new custom wrestling uniforms. Another option is to choose a stock design and color, and Ampro can print your team name on the front. Here is some sage advice if you elect to decorate a stock uniform; keep it simple! Printing on stretchy fabrics can be tricky, so pick big bold letters or designs.
Keep Your Team Healthy
Don’t forget to put warm-ups together for your team. In the cold winter months it is imperative to supplement your wrestling uniforms with warm clothing that will keep your wrestlers dry. Fleece is a popular item because of its lightweight, soft texture, but you may want to consider some natural fiber fabric blends to give them a break from the synthetics. 
Synthetic fabrics are fantastic for maintaining color, but they can also hold on to odors, and sometimes natural cotton blends do a better job of allowing the skin to breathe. Zip-up hoodies and open bottom sweat pants are very popular and comfortable. The next step up would be warm-up suits in colors that coordinate to your wrestling uniforms. Swimming Uniforms
Swimmers are finally getting some major innovations to their suits! Unlike most other sports, moisture management fabrics did not invade the marketplace to keep you dry (it would be a bit of a lost cause) so there haven’t been many “game changers” until the new ultra-compression suits were released from the major brands. Tyr has a version of this suit called their Tracer Light Aeroback full body swimming uniform. Both Dolfin and Tyr have competition suits, training suits, racers and jammers, so it becomes a question of who has the colors or patterns you prefer, and what your budget allows. Most swimsuits are made with Lycra, but there are also some made with Polyester and Spandex. Lycra and Spandex have great stretching properties, and Polyester has fantastic colorfastness for your swimming uniforms.
Get it Right
Once you decide the style of your uniform, it’s time to request sizing samples. Let each swimmer carefully determine their own size so you don’t have to revisit your swimming uniforms once they come in from the manufacturer. Now it’s time to stand apart from the other teams. To easily identify your swimmers, be sure to get custom-printed swimming caps. Ampro can print directly onto the caps to complete the team’s swimming uniforms and differentiate them from the other teams. Many teams also choose to print their jammers. For all these expandable garments we use a proprietary ink formulation that has excellent stretching properties and is resistant to chipping, fading and bleeding.
Stay Dry
Once you’ve chosen your swimming uniform, almost equally important are your warm-ups. Parkas, hoodies, and sweatpants are practically part of any swimming uniform anyway. Tyr makes an excellent slim-fit parka with a Polyester shell and micro fleece lining to stay warm between events. There are two ways to go for warm-ups. Either put together a warm-up that comprised of a hoody and sweatpant, or choose a warm-up suit from Tyr, Adidas or Under Armour that matches from head to toe. Micro-fleece is great, although it is definitely not absorbent, so many teams have chosen cotton-based warm-ups that will absorb moisture and dry quickly.

Volleyball Uniforms
Whether shopping for men’s or ladies volleyball uniforms, Asics, Adidas & Mizuno have the best variety. The first things you need to determine are your league’s requirements for the uniform itself as well as the decorating. Volleyball uniforms have many different sleeve-lengths, necklines and bottoms. In some leagues it’s appropriate to outfit the team in short-sleeved jerseys with collars and Spandex shorts, and certainly for other leagues sleeveless tops and bun-huggers are common. Ampro’s team specialists can supply you with your custom volleyball uniforms as well as your kneepads, socks, shoes and mouthpieces. If your team does not supply your players with shoes directly, let us know and we’ll put a special program together to purchase their Adidas shoes through Ampro for an excellent discount.
Stay Cool
All sports have highly specialized performance uniforms, and volleyball is no different. Certain Mizuno custom volleyball uniforms have Drylite fabric (Poly/Spandex blends) with mesh inserts and flatlock seams. Flatlock seams are specially designed not to chafe or rub, which is perfect for all the Spandex and Lycra-blended fabrics used in most volleyball uniforms. Mesh inserts help to keep players cool, and make a nice addition to all the moisture-management fabrics used in most volleyball uniforms. I have one strong suggestion for anyone about to purchase uniforms for a whole team, please request sizing samples from Ampro. We are happy to supply you with a full size run of your uniform to check the sizes of your players. It’s certainly much more important for ladies teams, but it can be an issue with men’s teams too.
Customize!
Last but not least, you need to consider how you are decorating your new custom volleyball uniforms. If you are keeping these uniforms for a few seasons, plan accordingly. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to order an extra uniform or two. There are always two main choices for numbering, you can either use heat-sealed numbers (vinyl or film) or you can silkscreen the numbers. Each has its own advantage, but silk screening is the most durable. If your numbers are white, you may want to use vinyl or film since all the synthetic specialty fabrics can have a tendency to bleed over time. Ampro has a proprietary ink blend specially designed for superior stretch and resistance to bleeding, but if you want to play it safe, you can use film. Most teams request 4” front numbers and 6” back numbers, be sure to check the requirements of your league before you decide which volleyball uniform you want. Foot Gear

All soccer players know how critical their socks are to their comfort and performance during game. The fabric content for socks vary tremendously by the manufacturer- some use nylon, acrylic, lycra or polypropylene blends. All of these synthetic blends have superior washability and moisture-management properties. Pre-game Gear
Warm-ups are a great way to offer your players additional clothing with your team logo and colors on it, plus it adds to the intimidation factor when your team rolls out onto the field in fully-matching warm-ups. Lacrosse Uniforms
Although they share the same name, men’s and women’s lacrosse are obviously very different. The same applies to lacrosse uniforms. Men’s lacrosse uniforms are comprised of mesh tops and shorts large enough to comfortably fit over all of their pads. On the other hand, ladies lacrosse uniforms are usually just a top and kiltie, and a pair of goggles. Regardless of whether you are researching options for men’s or women’s teams, Ampro can help. Women’s Uniforms
Ladies teams are primarily choosing racerback shirts and kilties or shorts. The great thing about choosing a racerback top for your team is that it prevents them from taking their concentration off the game to adjust their sleeves (which are usually tucked up and under their sports bra) and it helps to keep your players cool. Ladies lacrosse uniforms generally are required to have 6” front numbers and 8” back numbers, but that can vary by league. Be sure to check into the league requirements before placing your order. You have a couple options for putting the numbers onto the jerseys, if you choose a basic stock jersey in your team colors, you may want to print the numbers directly onto the jersey- that way we can match the ink color for the numbers to the trim in the lacrosse uniform itself. The other option is to use film numbers, which we heat seal onto the jersey. Printed numbers are generally longer-lasting than film. Ampro also carries goggles and sticks if you need them, so let us know what you need to supplement your lacrosse uniforms, and we will show you some samples.
For the Men
Men’s teams are starting to pick up on the sublimated jerseys (similar to what they use in MLL) which are covered in colors and patterns throughout the entire jersey. Those lacrosse uniforms are 100% Polyester, and some come in moisture management Polyester knits like DynaDry. Most teams choose mesh shorts with at least a 9” inseam to pair with their top. Mesh lacrosse uniforms are also very popular, they usually have Dazzle cloth tops and sleeves, and mesh to allow for circulation around the torso. Many leagues require their men’s lacrosse uniforms to have 8” front numbers, and 10-12” back numbers. We generally recommend that if you are numbering on mesh, you should request direct print numbers, where each number is individually printed onto each jersey. Film is a great alternative, and it’s definitely easier from a production standpoint, but we feel that for the best quality numbering on lacrosse uniforms direct print numbers are the way to go. Ice Hockey Uniforms
Planning your next big ice hockey uniform purchase? Perfect. We were just talking about ice hockey uniforms.
There are definitely a ton of options, but here are the basics; almost all ice hockey uniforms shirts are made of Pro mesh. Some teams go all out and tackle twill their logo and numbers, and some stick to screen-printing. There are also ice hockey uniforms that are fully sublimated (a unique form of printing for polyester fabrics), which are great for tailoring your uniforms to the team colors, and mascot. If you are on a tight budget, you may want to consider screen-printing your jerseys. Then, you have the hockey shorts to consider; Athletic Knit makes several different color combinations that coordinate with their socks. With most of the attention focused on the puck, socks are vital to differentiating your players from the other team. I guess that explains why there are over 175 color combinations available for Ice hockey uniform socks!
Key Brands
Any Ampro team specialist can discuss options from all the different manufacturers with you, but for Ice Hockey we really focus on Easton, Louisville, Athletic Knit and Dynamic. We can also supply you with equipment and dry land practice gear. We highly recommend Under Armour to wear underneath your pads, and even for regular practice. It’s great for muscle compression and core temperature regulation which can be difficult for a sport that is played in cold temperatures, but with a ton of padding underneath a mesh ice hockey uniform and shorts.
Size ‘Em Up
Before you place your order for ice hockey uniforms, be sure to double check your league requirements for numbering. Most leagues request 4” front numbers and 10” back numbers, but there is some variance from state to state. It’s also not a bad idea to closely evaluate the sizing of your jerseys and shorts over all components of protective equipment so you can ensure your players will have enough room to move in their uniforms once they are all suited up. If you want to provide your team with warm-ups that they can wear outside of the rink, Holloway and Charles River are second to none in quality and cost-effectiveness. They also have the widest selection, and we work with them so regularly that everyone on our production floor is an expert on decorating their products. Most people choose to embroider their warm-ups with the team logo and the player’s name and number. One of the trends we’ve noticed is embroidering the player’s number on the sleeve of the warm-up, and usually the name and number on their equipment bag. How to keep cool
Moisture management fabrics come in a ton of different varieties for football uniforms. Mesh is a great way to improve airflow around the athlete and his pads, and it’s extremely durable. Mesh comes in either tricot or porthole variations, and some manufacturers primarily use Pro-bright mesh versus regular (pro-bright is more shiny) for their football uniforms. In addition to that, some manufacturers use moisture management dazzle cloth for the cowls at the top of the uniform, so in theory, the whole jersey can breathe. Almost all the jerseys come with 2-ply dazzle cowls on top, which are designed to be durable. As many of you know, football uniforms are available in either a lineman’s cut, or a regular cut; so if you know how many slots you are filling in each line, it’s easier to finalize your order. The trend from our coaches suggests that full-length football uniforms are the direction most leagues are going, but there are still plenty of options in the other styles.
Other options
In addition to the jerseys, we carry a ton of different football pants. Powers definitely has the best quality in their stock pants, but a new trend is to actually sew the pads into the pants. If you want to try this out, just request some options for integrated football pants. Under Armour has the market cornered on compression apparel for underneath football uniforms to keep your players warm and to reduce injury. There are some decent comparable items from other mills, but most players elect to splurge on Under Armour, whose quality and branding are second to none. Before you place your order, be sure to double check your league’s requirement for the size of front and back numbers. Most teams use 10” numbers on the front and 12” numbers on the back, but it can vary by state and league. At the high school and collegiate levels, many coaches are honoring their graduating seniors by having their names sewn onto their football uniform at the end of the season. Field Hockey Uniforms
I have sewn an extra button onto more than one kiltie in my life. That was the great thing about the old school kilties with no pleats; I could just spin the skirt around to match the flap to my side. It seems that most teams have opted for kilties and skorts for the bottom half of their field hockey uniforms, and the tops are still very diverse. Major Rule Changes
Field hockey uniforms have improved tremendously in the past five years, in addition to that, the NFHS has mandated some important changes to take effect on 1/1/2011. The home and away uniforms will still be White for home, and black or dark for Away teams. The front and back of the uniform must be numbered, and the front must have teh high school name clearly indentified. Numbers should be sized 3” to 6” on the front, plain Arabic numberals, and the numbers on the back should be 6”-8”. Only two digit numbers are permissable, and 0 and 00 are not allowed. Visible locker patches (showing the manufacturer of the uniform) are not allowed on the outside of the jersey unless the are located in a spot which is tucked in. Cool Weather Dress
Warm-ups really are vital to the fall sports, and field hockey is no different. Turfer makes some great warm-ups that can be paired with field hockey uniforms from Dynamic and Under Armour. I remember that we had “wicky wicky” pants as part of our high school uniform. They were nylon shelled pants with a soft fabric lining, and they got the wicky wicky nickname from the noise we all made when we walked around in them. They weren’t the quietest warm-ups on the market, but we loved them as a part of our field hockey uniform. For women’s sports, you can really get away with less decorating then some of the men’s sports. A fashionable way to decorate your warm-ups would be to embroider a left-chest logo with your team mascot or name, and it’s up to you if you want to add to that. If the warm-ups need to be stretched out over a few years, you obviously don’t want to put names or numbers on them, but if the girls are welcome to keep them, you may want to put their name on the front or back. If you plan far enough in advance, you can put together a complete custom uniform with the unmistakable look of your school from top to bottom. There are early order discounts, and plenty of incentives to help cover the costs of creating a uniform unique to your team.
The New “Stock” Uniform
All the major brands are making major strides in their “stock” uniforms because they know how we all rely on the flexibility and speed of our suppliers. Now there are fantastic stock uniforms in every color combination imaginable. If you are used to supplying your team with custom uniforms, and you are accustomed to the lead times, by all means, stay with what you have done in the past. Custom uniforms are definitely the cream of the crop. If the responsibility to supply uniforms was just thrown into your lap at the last minute, it may be wise to entertain a stock uniform, and lean on your Ampro team specialist to suggest ways to decorate it to make it your own.
Timing is Everything
For top of the line custom uniforms, Ampro generally looks to Speedline, Wilson and Russell Athletic. The early-order discounts vary by season, but they are generally 3-4 months prior to the start of the season. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to start working on next years’ custom uniforms about 6 months prior to the season, that way you don’t have to deal with it when you are getting started with preseason. Since Ampro is one of the largest screen-printing operations on the East Coast, we have the capabilities to print, embroider and number your uniforms in house if we need to. That level of flexibility can be instrumental when the season is nearing and you need to fill-in with one uniform. Corporate Uniforms
So, what is corporate casual? It truly depends. Do you have to wear a suit to work every day? Well, those companies will view corporate casual different from a company like Ampro who specializes in polos and T shirts. Since we are one of the largest T shirt printers in the country, and since we love T shirts, they are acceptable at my company. We prefer collared shirts and nice pants or jeans, but with the production-oriented nature of our company, and the “can do” attitude of everyone in our production and office staff, T shirts are okay. But, we are the exception. Most corporate uniforms are comprised of formal components. Then dress-down days are meant to be a slight reprieve where jeans or khakis are acceptable with a nice shirt. Corporate uniforms are meant to be a reflection of the company and industry you are in. If you walked into a meeting with your bankers, and they were all wearing T shirts and jeans, people would be shocked. Corporate uniforms need to reflect the tenor of the company and the norms of the industry as well.
Suitable Solutions
Corporate uniforms are always designed with the best intentions, but they are not always well executed. For example, as much as clients may love to walk into a restaurant where the servers wear white from head to toe, it is definitely not the most practical corporate uniform for people in the food service industry. So, let’s just say you choose to mandate black 100% cotton tops and bottoms for the staff. That is definitely moving in the right direction, but again, black 100% cotton anything will fade and wrinkle easily. There are a ton of considerations that need to be reviewed before implementing corporate uniforms in any industry, but food service is one of the trickiest. Before choosing a new corporate uniform, it’s critical to consider how they will look, how they will wear, how they will flatter all the different body types, and how they will perform. Do they need to be breathable? Do they need to be loose? Is comfort more important than appearance? How could your new corporate uniform be accessorized in a way that could make it inappropriate? These are all things to consider. I would argue that comfort should come before appearance because a happy staff will always leave a better impression than an attractive and miserable staff.
Importance of Buy-In

Polo shirts seem to be a classic component of many corporate uniforms, and with the variety of polos that we carry, finding the “perfect” polo is no challenge. They all have fantastic moisture-management fabrics like Speed-Dry and Dri Power, which help to keep your players cool, but they also have the best variety and quality. Women’s Uniforms
If you are researching uniform possibilities for a women’s basketball team, here are some considerations before you begin. Most custom basketball uniforms have a racerback cut and the shorts are 
averaging between a 6” and 9” inseam for ladies teams. The fabrics range in composition, but most are based in Polyester and have blends of Spandex and other fibers. Our client coaches have been very pleased with the Speed-dry fabric from Speedline. When the moisture-management fabrics are really working well, it helps to keep your team fresh. The less they sweat, the longer they
will be able to compete at their best.
Men’s Uniforms
For men’s custom basketball uniforms, many elements are the same. The fabrics are all still Polyester-based, and there are many options for customization. Even within a particular style of uniform, there are often different fabric upgrades available, which is great if you are determined to get a certain look but are flexible about which fabric to use. If you are placing your orders in bulk and you want to take advantage of team discounts, the sky is the limit. You can choose the fabric, the trim, the colors, and the style of decorating for your custom basketball uniforms. If you are having Ampro print your jerseys, always ask that the print colors are matched to the uniform to optimize the look. Men’s inseam lengths are trending at 9”-11” and they seem to get longer every year. For the printed numbers on the front and back, men’s basketball uniforms are usually numbered at the same size as ladies; most leagues require 6” front numbers and 8” back numbers.

If you didn’t have the luxury of ordering your baseball uniforms in bulk then you should lean toward a stock uniform with some custom touches. There has been tremendous expansion in “stock” baseball uniforms; now there are many more color combinations and options to choose from.
Fabric Options
Polyester, mesh, poly warp knit, poly double knit, spandex, speed-dry, nylon poly blends, the fabric options are daunting. Here is what our coaches are telling us- the poly warp knit seems to be the best. It washes out clean and bright, and the fabric is strong and durable. If your priority is moisture management, mesh and speed-dry baseball uniforms might be the best option. Or, choose custom baseball uniforms that have mesh insets sewn together with more durable fabrics. Some coaches are more concerned about the comfort of the fabric and its flexibility, in which case the spandex-blended fabrics should be considered, along with the specific cut of the uniform. It seems like the fits are trending toward the loose-fit pant with a stay-tucked waistband and a slight flare leg, and as always, the full button semi-raglan cut baseball shirt.
Bells and Whistles
Now that we have discussed the building blocks of baseball uniforms, let’s discuss the more interesting components; the colors and trim. Pinstriped custom baseball uniforms with throwback style pants are a classic. But, if you have more modern tastes, you can always put together fresh baseball uniforms for your team with short-sleeved or sleeveless tops, Under Armour compression mock turtlenecks, Clemson-length pants, and Adidas shoes. Color-coordinate all the components, piping and braiding for the tops and pants to your team colors.
